Things to do in October
October in South Georgia brings the hint of cooler weather, and here in Wayne County we don’t waste one minute of this wonderful month. Every weekend throughout October there are activities for you and your family, and we want to make sure you don’t miss out on any of them!
Probably our most famous October attraction in Wayne County is Poppell Farms located at 1765 Hyma Poppell Loop in Odum. Each October thousands of guests visit the pumpkin patch for wagon rides, the petting zoo, the cow train, jump pads, mining, and the 10 acre corn maze! And this year the corn maze is in the shape of the University of Georgia quarterback, Stetson Bennett IV, who led the Dawgs to be the 2021 National Champions! We are proud of that around here because he’s a local boy with roots right here in Wayne County! Starting Oct. 7 in the evenings this trail becomes haunted, so don’t miss out on that if you’ve got some thrill seekers in your crowd!
Next up is the Willene Todd Memorial Rodeo on October 7th and 8th at 8 p.m. located at 361 Hortense Rd., Screven. This rodeo has been happening since 1999 in Screven, and it is a fundraiser for a scholarship fund in honor of Mrs. Willene Todd that is awarded to a local senior each year. Your whole family will love this rodeo and seeing the barrel racing, bull riding, and the antics of the rodeo clown, but the best part to the kids is chasing the calves to try and win some money! You’ll be sure to have some good laughs at this event!
Wayne County is also the host of two festivals in the month of October. Odum Day is located in downtown Odum at the Town Square and Train Depot on October 15th. There will be a parade starting at 10 a.m., and following that there will be local talent performances, a children’s fun zone, and lots of local vendors…including funnel cakes!!! Odum Day is a long-time event for Wayne County.
You also won’t want to miss the 19th Annual Jesup Arch Festival on October 22. During this festival downtown Jesup on Cherry Street is blocked off for all the vendors, food trucks, and children’s activities. There will also be a car show presented as well. Take the family and stroll through the streets to see all the local talent our community provides! For more information visit
Then what town wouldn’t be complete without a fall fair coming to town?! Our fair is held at the Jesup Jaycee Fairgrounds at Jaycee Landing Rd from October 11th-15th. You’ll be sure to have nostalgic memories on the ferris wheel while making new memories with your friends and family!
And finally the last weekend of October is the Halloween celebration! That weekend there will be lots of Trunk or Treats at local churches in the community, a Halloween Parade, and trick-or-treating. Be sure to follow the City of Jesup on Facebook for more updates on dates and times of these events as it gets closer to Halloween.
We hope you take advantage of the many opportunities our community has to offer!
